Pushing aside all inevitably comparisons to Chanel, it is exciting to see Dior step out on their own and reinvent their brand aesthetic for Dior Horlogerie - that is completely theirs. It was expected that comparisons to Chanel would arise, and at first, those comparisons did seem to influence Dior's designs to their detriment. Inspired by their own rich fashion history - and the confidence to take some risks - they are finally ready to shake things up and move forward.

Here is a rare watch from favorite German luxury watch maker A. Lange & Sohne. If you can take yourself back to the bubble building times of the year 2000, you'll recall just how sexy the idea of a tourbillon watch was. This was before a "mere tourbillon" was not enough, and when the complication was gaining steam as the haute mechanical wonder to wear. At this time most consumers still had no idea what the odd, but cool looking complication was. Later most consumers finally learned that the complication was in fact cool to look at, but of questionable value from utilitarian perspective. But who cares really, you don't get a 0,000 watch for utilitarian purposes.

But really - this is a feminine watch - there is so much mystery and illusion at play here, that totally reflects feminine notions. The Dior Christal Mysterieuse is also an amazing example of the watch as an adornment, even more so than the watch as a piece of jewelry. With so much engineering at work here, such sultry design, this watch speaks volume of the personality of the wearer.

Seiko Ananta Spring Drive Watches Watch Releases

Being a British company, Graham probably wanted the change to create a watch homage to the SAS (Special Air Service). This Air Force like branch of the English military was formed during WWII to fight against the Germans, and the icon emblem lives on, being featured on the dial of the watch. This watch is also a limited edition of only 300 pieces, which will likely found their way to many select stores for your viewing pleasure.

Maybe a surprise to you, but this is going to be my first trip to Switzerland. Today I embark on a (frustratingly long) flight to Geneva for two important shows. First is the highly exclusive SIHH 2010, put on indirectly by the Richemont Group to celebrate mostly its brands. This gala style event is apparently very high-class, and of course, as always, "by invitation only." I do consider myself lucky having be asking to attend. There I will mingle and see new for 2010 releases of many brands, just a few of which are Audemars Piguet (not part of Richemont), A. Lange & Sohne, Cartier, Panerai, Vacheron Constantin, Greubel Forsey (also not part of Richemont I understand), Van Cleef & Arpels, Richard Mille (not part of Richemont), IWC, and many more!

The quality of the case is very good for this price level. Solidly made, good surfacing, and a finish that you'll be proud of (sorry about any finger prints on it in the pics). You also have the black PVD version as well that gives you the all dark look and a different styled. If you are concerned about size, the PVD version appears smaller due to it all being black. The dial of the watch is the Lumzilla's best asset. You get the upgraded LUM-TEC GX MDV lume, as well as large numerals and hour markers and easy to read hands. I needed to live with the dial for a bit to really measure it up. At first I though the hands were too small, but they really aren't. The watch is bold looking but easy to read - a tough combination of traits. Many people ask me about lume quality. I can say that it is very good. With some charging, the lume stays bright and the application of the lume over the dial makes the entire face easy to read. The seconds hand is perhaps too small. It easily gets lost in the face. Black on black with just a red tip. If you like having a seconds hand, you might find yourself searching for it. However, I think that LUM-TEC did this on purpose. It was trying to give the face a more simple look, but still give you the benefit of having a seconds hand. Which means that it is sort of like a phantom seconds hand. Not too visible unless you are purposefully looking for it.

If you don't know about Orient watches, that is OK. They aren't Chinese, the name Orient just stuck since the brand is 50 years old when it was founded in Japan. Orient watches are mechanical and they make their own movements. I previously reviewed another Orient watch, the CFT00004B here. I am becoming well acquainted with the line and feel that the company does put together a decent watch with reliable movements. A lot of the cheaper Japanese mechanical movements aren't exactly something to brag about, but the Orient automatic movements have been quite reliable and accurate. They aren't without their quirks though, but nothing serious that should stand in your way of getting one.

Thoughts On The Confrerie Horlogere La Clef du Temps Tourbillon Watch Watch Releases

This was a very interesting and informative video (translated to English from French) that recently came out from the FHH about enamel work on watches, and the four various types of techniques that are primarily used for watch dials. Many of us don't even recognize enamel art on watches - or cannot appreciate what goes into it. It is very tough work done by highly skilled (and patient) master artists who have been doing it for years. To get it just right on a watch dial can take a few tries as there is always risk involved in not only the actual painting, but also the 800 degree plus baking process. Most watches with "paintings" on them utilize enamel. This is because enamel lasts a long time, is hardy, will not fade, and has extremely bold and beautiful looks when done well. There is also the concept that a master worker hand-loved the dial of the watch and now you get to wear it.

Looks like Bear has a penchant for analog hand watches. His Casio Dynamic Wave Ceptor watch was analog, and so is this Casio G-Shock AWG101-1A watch (aka AWG101 or AWG-101). While each of these watches has analog hands, they also have LCD screens for other information. I'd say that most Casio watches are all digital. It wasn't easy to pinpoint the exact model on Casio G-Shock watch, so there is a small chance it might be another model - though that is unlikely. At 0 retail, the watch is a good deal (pretty much all Casio watches are). The watch is light powered (Tough Solar as Casio calls it), and atomic clock radio controlled (5 band). This at least means that watch won't need a new battery even if you are out of the range of the atomic clock radio signals.

This is especially evident in the frog and the owl. Is there not something a bit Disney-esque about them? Then there is what you cannot see in the images, the "crazy seconds" eye of the latter two models or the flying...fly of the Chameleon model. If you aren't familiar with the watches, here is what that is. Inside the watches is an exclusive Girard Perregaux GP 4000 automatic movement that has a small disc for the subsidiary seconds as opposed to a hand. This disc is used as the left eye on the frog or the owl (and the fly) which means that the pupil will be seen to spin around - like a googly eye. I get a reminder of the animatronic characters on Disney Land rides that had such simple movements I recall enjoying being able to spot as a child while in a boat surrounded by water and theme music.

Seen below is the highest end model in the line with the gold toned bezel. I believe the bezel insert is solid 18k gold. Other models have black or blue bezels, and there is also a silver or orange dialed version. Like most popular Tag Heuer timepieces the watch is available with a Swiss quartz movement or a Swiss ETA automatic movement (Tag Heuer re-brands them to things like the "Calibre 5").  They certainly make you think before getting the model you want. The automatic versions of the watches are over 0 more than the quartz models. The difference in price doesn't need to be that much - but it is true that Tag Heuer is the type of brand that attracts hardcore watch lovers, and those who don't know the difference between a mechanical and quartz movement.

Catering to fashionistas with different fashion senses, Gucci has designed the Marina Chain Collection in Sold Yellow Gold - Stainless Steel- and a combination of the two. On top of the metal options, diamonds are, of course, another option to customize your watch. I usually don't like Stainless Steel/Yellow Gold combos - kinda reminds me of the 80s - but in this case, it seems to be the best option. This way, you can see the Marina Chain links, which are the most interesting part of this watch.

Like I said, my argument was constructed for all types of people to understand. If you read the comments after the articles, some people got irked that my articles didn't delve deep into some of the more technical or historical aspects of the argument. I appreciate their sentiments, but they need to realize that the article was intended to appeal to people who didn't know or care about what was inside of a watch movement. It was enough to say that it was a "good watch movement." So check  it out, along with the counter argument and see what you think.

Mechanically the Magellan 1521 watch has a modified Swiss ETA 2893-2 automatic movement in it. The high-grade movement needed to be modified to allow for the hands to be attached so high up from the movement. As you can see, there is some significant room between the top of the globe and where the movement would be. As such, Magellan needed to have very (very) thin (some hollow) metal rods made to extend the hand connector points. If you understand how watch hands are attached, you'll be able to appreciate just how difficult these rods were to make. The hands themselves are curved so that they wrap around the globe as one might expect them to in such a design. The GMT movement has a fourth hand for 24 hour time, which is done in a mirror polished orb style hand. The seconds hand is in red, while the hour and minute hands are simple in black with a strip of SuperLumiNova on them. To assist with reading the time, there are little applied balls of luminant placed around the chapter ring on the mother-of-pearl at each hour indicator. Time is pretty easy to read even though the hands are curved. Look straight down at the watch and you'll barely notice.
